about

The Turbine is the new offering from Laneway. Penned during the Great Rains of January 2011 in the forest at the Natural Bridge the slightly haunting ballad is an ode to green power...and a black sky. It was recorded with Matt Redlich in East Brisbane as the river outside found its peak during the floods. O'Reilly & Hannan were joined in the studio for the tracking of the song by Fingers Malone who played the drums, Cori who did some harmonies and Matt then played a slide solo and sang some notes.

lyrics

There's a little place where the lines don't reach
Road is dirt and the air is sweet
All the little streams meet in the creek
Runs between the mountains with the slopes so steep

The wind will howl and the wind will blow
All of the people in the valley will know
Rain will fall and the creek will flow
Water will make the turbine go

Just beyond the mountains in the south
There's a cool glow that reaches out
Down by the coast at the river mouth
The City folk race and rush about

The wind will howl and the wind will blow
All of the people in the valley will know
Rain will fall and the creek will flow
Water will make the turbine go

You Sing your song
They'll hum along
You shine their lights
Through darkened nights

But the wind will howl and the wind will blow
All of the people in the valley will know
Rain will fall and the creek will flow
Water will make the turbine go

about

Laneway Natural Bridge, Australia

Deep in the hills of Natural Bridge on the edge of an extinct volcano, under heavy air, amidst speckled lights of gloworms and hushed by a creek, is a cabin. A stone floor. The home of Louise O’Reilly and Paul Hannan. Herein is the space where flowers in the hair, tapping of the boots, a swaying of the hips has been translated into the sound of the death of 1000 summers. The sounds of Laneway. ... more
